SC adjourns hearing on Jaypee homebuyers’ plea

The Supreme Court today adjourned hearing on the Jaypee homebuyers’ plea challenging insolvency order against Jaypee Infratech.

According to Jaypee buyers, a bench of Chief Justice JS Khehar and Justice DY Chandrachud adjourned the matter for September 4. They also advised that instead of filing several petitions, there should be one comprehensive petition, covering all the issues of the buyers.

Chitra Sharma, a petitioner, told City Spidey that buyers from across the country had filed different cases in the Supreme Court. “After seeing a large number of petitions of a similar nature, the court advised us to come forward with a comprehensive petition,” she added.

"All buyers will conduct a meeting, during which we’ll decide our further plan of action,” she added.

The Allahabad bench of the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) admitted IDBI bank's insolvency plea against Jaypee Infratech. IDBI had filed an insolvency plea in the tribunal after Jaypee Infratech defaulted on a loan of around Rs 526 crore.

The NCLT’s move impacts around 40,000 across Noida and Greater Noida. Buyers say they have invested their life earnings into Jaypee projects. After the insolvency plea, most buyers have lost hope of ever getting their flats.
