Gurgaon, Sec 71: What happened to the approach road?

Disgruntled residents of Sector 71, Gurgaon, don’t know where to appeal — not any longer. Despite repeated reminders to authorities, the busy approach road to the sector lies in utter disrepair.

Almost 600 cars, RMC trucks, vehicles of many courier companies, villagers, school buses use this half dug-up road on a daily basis.

The road was initially a kachha one, and it was made concrete in 2015. But the work done was so shoddy that by 2017 it was damaged and broken. Even after repeated reminders, the authorities turned a blind eye to the issue.

“This is bureaucracy at its worse — even after so many promises made by various governments the files just collect dust. Our sector road is a perfect example of corruption,” complained Rajan Chibber, a resident of CHD Avenue.

Another resident Manu Singla said, “As far as development of new sectors is concerned, government and authorities have failed on all counts. They are treating us as cash cows — concerned only with tax collection!”

Besides being in damaged state, there are other issues as well.

Sanjay Mathur, a member of the RWA, said, “There are no streetlights here, so it’s not safe after dark. The roads have not been repaired with quality materials. Besides, there are several illegal speed breakers, which cause inconvenience to commuters.”

Speaking on the issue, Arun Yadav, social media advisor to the government, said, “Haryana government is still sorting out the mess created by the previous government. The roads which were to be made as per the masterplan of 2031 are being constructed now in 2017.”

The authorities were unavailable for comment.
