One of the most ambitious projects of the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) to develop a Cycle Adventure Park in Dwarka has been unceremoniously dropped from the civic body’s agenda.

This project was announced by the then vice-chairman of the DDA at a press conference in 2015 to promote green mode of transport, and also a means of adventure entertainment for the community.

But according to one of the DDA officials, “We have no such project now —  it may have been scrapped.”

The DDA nursery in Sector 5 was earmarked for this first-of-its-kind initiative. According to a press release issued by the DDA at the time, mountain biking terrain, cycling circuits, a special area for kids, a fitness centre and running tracks were to be developed in the park. A place was to be set up within the park for a cycle boutique and a gallery to exhibit brand new designs and vintage models.

A board was erected outside the gates with the name of the project  — inside the nursery, multiple boards with rules and regulations for the cycle track were also set up. But all that seems to have come to naught.

When City Spidey asked one of the DDA engineers of the area on the status of the project, he replied, “There is no such project that we know of — and there’s no board placed anywhere in Dwarka.”

But the images clicked by City Spidey show otherwise.

“Such a wonderful project was planned by the DDA. A gallery was to be developed housing the history of cycle. A boutique to provide a scope for enthusiasts to get customised cycles and several other things were planned. Apart from that, a kid's zone, a fitness centre, a cycle café were to be the other attractions," said an official of the DDA.

The DDA had also signed up with the National Buildings Construction Corporation Limited (NBCC) for the project. But since then, the project has been gathering dust.

Chief engineer of the project, AK Garg, said, “I have been here for two years and there was never any mention of the project.”

No official could confirm the status of the project.
