In a video that went viral on social networking sites yesterday, a student of Pathways School in Sector 100, Noida, is seen getting slapped by another Class X student.
The whole episode was captured by the students for Snapchat, a popular multimedia app.
The video, which shows four students, including the victim, has drawn severe criticism from various quarters.
The father of the victim has written a letter to school authorities, and demanded punitive action.
Dr Shalini Advani, school director, released a statement saying that the whole episode was unfortunate. It also said that the incident was not an act of bullying, rather the outcome of a consensual peer "slap bet".
The school, today morning, suspended three children for a month for slapping the victim. Two more students were suspended for two weeks for shooting the clip.
