BREAKING NEWS: Police lathicharge protesters in front of Ryan International

Protesting parents in front of Ryan International School, Gurgaon, including women, were beaten up by the police.

Violence erupted when a group of protesters pelted stones at a shop nearby and set it on fire.

The police then charged in with lathis, and were especially antagonistic towards the media people present at the spot. Cameras were smashed and many journalists were beaten up, including a female reporter.

Watch this local reporter, who had his phone smashed as he was filming the event, talk about his experience.

Below is an earlier media clip of the lathicharge by the police:

Two fire brigades arrived at the school around 1.15 pm, possibly as a precaution against further protester violence. Interestingly, there was no fire brigade when the shop was set alight by protesters.

Two more buses full of police personnel and commandos reached the spot around 1.30 pm. More from the police force trooped in to provide security to the school. This despite all school gates being locked and protests having all but stopped.
