East Delhi: Here’s a classic case of police apathy…

On the midnight of August 28 at Ashirwad Apartment, a CGHS in East Delhi’s Madhu Vihar, thieves roamed freely from one block to another, breaking the locks of 13 flats that were locked from outside.

The episode has left residents completely shaken!

According to managing committee members, three thieves had entered in the society scaling a 4-feet wall from behind the society.

Residents alleged they provided ample evidence, including CCTV footage, to Madhu Vihar police station, but they did not take the issue seriously. It has been almost two weeks since the incident occurred, but the police is yet to take any action.

Most residents believe insiders are involved in the case.

BK Matto, a member of the managing committee of Ashiwad Apartments, said, “We wrote to Delhi police commissioner, DCP East Delhi, MP Mahesh Giri, requesting for an investigation. Police thinks it’s a minor incident, but it’s about the security of residents. Many senior citizens and women are living alone here.”

In the light of the events, the managing committee has decided to increase the height of the boundary wall and put extended wire fencing across the boundary.

The managing committee claimed they have as many as 16 CCTV cameras. And the thieves were well aware of their locations. And it is clear that they tried to avoid the cameras, but were captured in four cameras.

A senior citizen of the society alleged that the police did not even visit to the site. “Under community police rule, the beat constable should visit at least once a month for senior citizens. But neither the SHO nor beat constable visited us,” complained the senior citizen.

Investigation office in the case, Moolchand Sharma, talking to City Spidey said, “Residents have provided CCTV footage of the society, but faces are not clearly visible. We will examine CCTV footage installed outside the premises and at the SBI ATM. I have asked the SBI to provide CCTV footage.”
