I'puram: Attempt to abduct a seven-year-old girl

In yet another disturbing incident, an unidentified miscreant tried to abduct a seven-year-old girl from her home in Indirapuram, Ghaziabad, yesterday night. The incident took place at around 7.30 pm on plot 1030B of Nyay Khand 1.

Thankfully, Tanisha Shrivastav, a student of Kendriya Vidyalay Hindon Airbase, managed to escape unhurt, as the miscreant left her alone once her father and neighbourhood residents raised alarm and chased him.

Speaking to City Spidey, Akash Shrivastava, Tanisha’s father, who works as an accountant at Shanti Gopal Hospital, said that following her daily routine his daughter had gone to play with her friend who lived on the ground floor of the building. “I had just returned from office and was freshening up. I called Tanisha back, so that she could have her dinner and go to bed early. While she was climbing the staircase, an identified boy — about 22-24 years of age — started to carry her away forcefully. I saw this and raised alarm; I then jumped a few stairs and started chasing the boy. In the meantime, residents of the neighbourhood pursued the boy. The boy then dropped my daughter at around 10 metres from our house and fled the spot,” Shrivastava recounted.

“I also chased him for another 100 metres, but gave up as I needed to check with my daughter,” Shrivastava further said.

Speaking to City Spidey, Gopal Kapoor, a friend and a neighbour of the Shrivastavas, said, “We called the police, but they were in a rush to wrap up the scene, without initiating any action. Instead they asked us to instal CCTV cameras in front of our homes!”

Such callous attitude on the part of the police enraged local residents, who reached the Abhay Khand police post, demanding immediate action on their part. The situation was taken under control by SK Dubey, the SO of Indirapuram police station.

A complaint in this regard has been lodged at the Abhay Khand police post. Police officials said police patrolling will be increased in the area.

However, the incident has driven a sense of fear in parents of the area, who are questioning the quality of policing in this residential neighbourhood.
