Ryan International School, Bhondsi, finally resumed operations yesterday. It had opened for two days and then again shut down.

The school had first reopened on 18 September after the gruesome murder of 8-year-old Pradyuman Thakur in the school toilet, but there was hardly any turnout and the security lapses had continued.

Yesterday though the attendance was normal, parents and students both seemed hesitant and anxious.

The school has employed new staff in the security and administration departments, and two people have been deployed at the main gate to help the children.

Parents who came to drop their wards were assured by the deputy commissioner of Gurgaon, Vinay Pratap Singh, about the heightened safety provisions adopted by the school.

"We were told that additional CCTV cameras have been installed and the boundary wall has been constructed," said Sushma Sharma, a parent, who is hopeful that the arrangements done now will provide long-term safety.

Another parent, Himesh Khatana, said, "My daughter was very scared after the incident and could not sleep for a couple of days. We had to really convince her to resume school."

A child who was seen clinging to his elder sister said, "I have come to school, but I don't want to go to the toilet."
