In what can be called a snub to residents, Ghaziabad Development Authority, or GDA, declared a broken, potholed road in no need of repair. The road in question is an approach lane from the Kala Patthar road in Indirapuram leading to Amrapali Village, a residential high-rise in the city. GDA’s response came after a complaint was lodged on the civic body’s IGRS, or Integrated Grievance Redressal System.
Speaking to City Spidey, AOA members of Amrapali Village said they had been complaining to the authority about the broken road for some time now and had even submitted formal complaints. They also called into question the Yogi-led UP government’s promise to make UP roads pothole-free.
“We have been trying to get this road fixed for quite some time. Despite several meetings, we have not seen any real work on the road. We sent mails, formal complaints and then finally lodged a complaint on the IGRS. In response to our online complaints, we received a letter that said the road was alright!” said Rakesh Kumar, general secretary of the Amrapali Village AOA.

However, pictures have a different story to tell. They show the entire stretch of the approach road riddled with potholes, with muddy water stagnating in parts.

When contacted, GDA officials, however, did say that repairwork on potholes in entire Ghaziabad was held up due to the rains but would be resumed shortly.
Meanwhile, the AOA of the society has now sent another complaint to the Commissioner of Meerut Zone, along with snapshots of the road.
