Stall the hike on fares…Delhi Transport Minister urges DMRC

The Delhi Transport Minister, Kailash Gahlot, thas told Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to stall its decision of hiking fares. As things stand now, the fares cannot be raised until the transport department completes an inquiry and forms a conclusive opinion regarding the same.

A letter written by a Delhi Government official to DMRC read thus: The proposed fare hike by DMRC is likely to adversely affect the interest of a large number of metro commuters in Delhi NCR.

Despite the state government’s decisive stand on the subject, a certain degree of uncertainty exists. After all the DMRC panel might not pay heed to the Delhi Government.

Addressing a press conference today, Gahlot said that the transport department is in the process of examining the entire matter. Incidentally in the DMRC panel five members are from the Delhi government and five others are from the Central Government.
