FONRWA writes to Noida Authority about sanitation, stray dogs

Noida residents have been complaining about stray dogs and ineffective, and sometimes irregular, garbage collection and disposal for quite sometime now. FONRWA, the apex body of Noida residents, finally wrote to Rama Raman, chairman & chief executive officer, Noida Authority, requesting a solution to the problem of stray dogs and “unhygienic conditions” in the city.

The first letter stated that stray dogs in the city have become a menace. Children and senior citizens are most vulnerable to stray dog attacks. The letter also cited the helplessness of the residents. It said, as per the law, stray dogs could not be killed or re-located, but they can be sterilized by the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) to check their  population. The letter claimed that effective sterilization is not being carried out due to SPCA's shortage of funds.

The second letter stated that Noida residents have been facing a critical situation arising from unhygienic conditions in several parts of the city. It said that the system for sweeping roads, cleaning of water drains, collection of garbage from houses and its disposal works were being carried out in an erratic manner, and needed to be done on a regular basis.

FONRWA quoted specific instances of sectors such as 11,12, 35 (Garima Vihar), 52 and 66 (EWS Flats), where the roads are not being swept regularly and garbage is found littered on the roads. In Sector 12 and 35 (Garima Vihar), where garbage cabins have been provided, waste is still seen littered on the streets.

NP Singh, president of FONRWA, told City Spidey that most of the problems mentioned in the letters were long-standing issues of the city. "People are being bitten by stray dogs, garbage is strewn on roads but where are those responsible for addressing these problems?" asked Singh.

SK Gupta, health inspector of Noida Authority, told City Spidey that the Authority is serious about the health and well being of residents. "We are creating a team to assess all these issues and will initiate proper action," added Gupta.
