A six-year-old girl lost her life to dengue while undergoing treatment at the Super Specialty Paediatric Hospital in Sector 30, Noida. Over 100 residents of the city have been affected by dengue in the last few months.

This is the first official confirmation of any death from dengue. She passed away on October 4.

The childcare hospital has confirmed around 135 cases of dengue this year.

Little Zainab, a resident of New Ashok Nagar in Delhi, was admitted to the hospital on October 3 due to high fever. Her blood was sampled for ELISA (Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay) test, and she confirmed positive.

According to the doctors of the department of microbiology at the hospital, 18 new patients of dengue have been confirmed from 1 to 4 October, while 86 cases were confirmed in September itself.

With these figures, the number of dengue-positive patients in the district has reached close to 160.

Dr Shekhar Yadav, medical superintendent of the hospital, said all efforts are being made to check the cases of dengue. “The death of the girl is unfortunate, but we are trying our best to control the situation,” he added.

Villages located in near urban areas seem to be the worst affected. Most patients come from Chowda, Barola and Sadarpur, located along the urban areas of Noida.

According to residents of these villages, the health department's team does not spray mosquito repellents in the neighbourhoods.

Swine flu, too, is rearing its head.  Another six new suspected cases of swine flu have come to notice in the last four days. Blood samples of patients have been sent to the National Centre for Disease Control for swine flu tests.
