Third phase of Ganga Jal project likely to be delayed

Residents of upcoming sectors of Noida will have to make do with the hard water being supplied by Noida Authority as the third phase of the Ganga Jal project is likely to be delayed. UP Jal Nigam is still waiting for the No Objection Certificate from the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI).

RK Agarwal, project manager, UP Jal Nigam, told City Spidey, “We have sought permission from National Highway Authority of India to bring the pipeline under NH-24. Although NHAI has agreed to grant permission to us, the process will take some more time.” NHAI is supposed to inform the UP Jal Nigam of a suitable place from where underground pipes carrying Gangal Jal can pass through NH-24.

“The layout and estimate for the project are ready but we are waiting for the No Objection Certificate from NHAI. The tender for the project will be floated sometime next month after the project gets a green signal from NHAI,” he added.

According to Agarwal, under the third phase of the project, Noida Authority and UP Housing and Development Board have agreed to develop a 50 cusecs Gangal Jal treatment plant at Siddharth Vihar in Ghaziabad.

The project, which is to be completed by the end of 2018, will be developed at an estimated cost of Rs 240 crore. While Noida Authority will bear 75 per cent of the cost, the remaining 25 per cent will be borne by the UP Housing and Development Board.

About 37.5 cusecs of Ganga Jal will be supplied to Noida and 12.5 cusecs will supplied to UP Housing and Development Board.
