Noida: Integrated waste collection and disposal plant for Sector 137

Residents of Noida Sector 137, a densely populated residential pocket may soon be relieved from the foul smells that are emanating from a temporary land- fill-site. Approximately 15 private agencies have expressed an interest in setting up an integrated waste collection and disposal plant in the city.

These private agencies have recently given a demo of the project model to top officers of the authority. Incidentally, the city lacks a waste disposal site since its inception around 41 years back. However, now the officials are determined to resolve this handicap. They have identified a 17 acre vacant plot in Sector 121 for the proposed waste disposal plant.

An official with the authority revealed that the emphasis is on solving the waste disposal problem through technology. Though he declined to reveal the name of the company which had presented the best proposal, he did say that the officials are zeroing on a unique concept that does not entail the mandatory segregation of waste into dry and wet.

In the words of the official, “The agency we are selecting for this waste disposal plant prepares tiles from the waste and generates energy from the gas that is released from the waste.”

The agency, if selected, will be asked to submit a proper proposal for setting up the plant in Noida. It will take about a year to complete the setting up of the plant, the officer informed.
