Ghaziabad: MLA seeks investigation into shady contracts of GDA

After receiving complaints from residents, Sunil Sharma, MLA, Sahibabad constituency, has asked the Ghaziabad Development Authority to conduct an investigation into the issues surrounding the granting of maintenance contracts in Indirapuram. Members of Federation of Apartment Owners Association (FedAoA) of Ghaziabad had flagged the issue in May 2016,  in response to an RTI query.

The RTI query essentially demanded if and why the same set of individuals operating different companies were repeatedly being awarded maintenance contracts by the GDA. In his query, Alok Kumar, the president of the Federation of Apartment Owners Association (FedAoA), urged the GDA to provide details of the companies that have been appointed for the upkeep of the residential areas of Indirapuram.

The MLA, in his letter mentioned that he was informed that the companies, Willbrose India, Willbrose Hitech Infrastructure Pvt Ltd, Gazel Suffolk India, Florida Facility Management Pvt Ltd, which have been repeatedly awarded contracts are owned by the same people. Interestingly, the contracts were being repeatedly awarded despite blatant complaints of shoddy services.

"The complaints made to the MLA include that the GDA had also awarded contracts for providing security and maintenance in the Rajendra Nagar residential area to the same companies although they did not have requisite lincenses for providing security services."

The letter addressed to the vice chairman of GDA demanded that the matter be investigated properly and the proceedings be presented to the MLA.

Speaking to City Spidey, Alok Kumar, president of FedAOA said that the matter is definitely a scam, which involves crores of rupees. “If we do not get a proper investigation we will escalate the matter to the chief minister’s office,” Kumar added.
