Gurgaon: When caddies called the shots...

DLF5 hosted the 13th edition of the DLF Invitational Caddy Championship at the sprawling greens of the DLF Golf and Country Club yesterday afternoon.

The championship journeys back to 2002, and has been hosted year after year to provide caddies a golfing platform.

Caddies from 35 clubs across Delhi-NCR, Kolkata, Meerut, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Lucknow, Simla and Pune came to participate in the event. There were some first-timers as well from Srinagar, Gorakhpur, Mussoorie, Dehradun and Madhuban.

The event provided caddies, mostly unsung and overlooked, a platform to showcase their golfing acumen.

It was a proud moment for Janesh Pal of DLF Golf and Country Club who emerged as the winner of the championship. He was presented with an Alto car, a LED TV and a golf bag along with the winner’s trophy. The first runners-up, Chote Lal, who participated for the first time from Noida Golf Club, won a Hero Honda Splendour and a LED TV from Samsung.

Here’s what Pal had to say after his proud win: “I am feeling very special winning this car and will take my family for an outing in it today.”

In the clubs category, Ganganagar Golf Club emerged as the overall winner team.

Speaking at the event, Aakash Ohri, executive director of DLF5, said, “It is indeed an honour to host this championship for the caddies — the unsung heroes of golf. From the level of participation, we can certainly say this caddy championship has earned national repute. Let’s hope for a bigger event next year.”
