A protest was organised by Congress workers at Sector 9 Metro station yesterday evening to demand a revision of the hike in Metro fares.
About 100 workers, including former area councillor and deputy mayor Praveen Rana and other leaders, participated in the protests.
Chanting slogans against both the central and the state government and holding placards, the protestors demanded prompt action from the government.
Talking with City Spidey, former deputy mayor said, "The hike in fares by the DMRC is completely unjust! It’s a draconian decision and not in favour of the public. We are demanding its roll back as soon as possible."
He further said, "The central government has behaved like a dictator in hiking the fares, while the state government is playing it diplomatically."
Some residents of Dwarka also participated in the protest, while some of students exiting the station also expressed their support.
Nitya Nand, a student of IP University, said, "The hike hits us badly. I am not a political person, but this protest might lead the government to rethink."
CK Sharma, a resident of Sector 6, said, "I came here to watch. No matter who is protesting — they are right. This steep hike is not justified. Hope the government will think about the impact and decide a roll back or, at least, a decrease."
