Gurgaon: St Xavier’s celebrated the spirit of Diwali with a food donation drive

In a bid to inculcate the value of sharing food with the needy and economically marginalised sections of society, the management of St Xavier’s High School had organised a two day food donation drive. The drive, which started yesterday, celebrated the spirit of gifting which is intrinsic to Diwali. Incidentally, it also coincided with the occasion of World Food Day that is October 16.

Dressed in traditional attire, students of this school, located at Rosewood City in Gurgaon Sector 50 came forward to contribute a plethora of food items like biscuits, namkeens, tetrapack juices, pulses, flour, sugar and other non-perishable items.

A major aim of this drive was to sensitise children towards the needy and make them understand the value of food. “There are people who waste so much food not realizing that some do not even have food to eat every day. This drive should help us in realising the importance of food,” said a student.

“We all celebrate festivals and indulge ourselves in activities of our choice. However, we must not forget that there is a section of society who are deprived of all these joys. To include them, both in our thoughts and actions, will help in making the festival more special and memorable for both the students and the beneficiaries,” said Ruchi Verma, parent of a kindergarten student.

The senior students of the school had generated mass awareness on the drive through school circulars and Whattsapp groups.
