Policemen on bikes are orienting Dwarkaites on security issues

Since the past week, Dwarkaites are being greeted on the roads by policemen on bicycles. Yes you guessed it right! These are unusually friendly policemen who care to strike a conversation with people about security concerns.

These bicycle riding policemen are part of a unique initiative called ‘Buddy Patrolling’ which was launched on Delhi Police Day (October 21). This initiative aims to create a collaborative ecosystem for policing. The policemen visit community spaces like parks and residential societies inorder to interact with the people and understand their security concerns. By orienting people on security measures, the police personnel are striving to instil an attitude of community policing.

According to senior police officials about 20 bicycles have been given to beat constables across police stations in the subcity. Assistant Commissioner of Police, Dwarka, Rajendra Singh said, “This is a foreign concept and is very effective for policing and building a bond with the community. For the initial rounds of buddy patrolling we have targeted the parks where people meet and spend leisure periods. Our beat officers are already getting a good response.”

People of Dwarka have welcomed the initiative. A senior citizen of Sector 23 Sham Lal Verma said, “This is a wonderful initiative by the Delhi Police. We are happy that the concept of ‘Buddy Patrolling’ has been launched in Dwarka. The residential communities are bound to support this initiative wholeheartedly.”
