Gurgaon Sector 71 residents petition Chief Minister about pollution Residents protest against air pollution

Residents of Sector 71, Gurgaon, on Sunday held a demonstration to protest against increasing air pollution in the area. The poor air quality, they say, has begun telling on the health of the residents.

The residents congregated outside the Escape condominium and took a pledge not give up till the civic authorities took action on the issue. The residents have also shot off a letter to Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar after their meetings with officials failed to evoke adequate response.

A significant factor in the deteriorating air quality is dust from construction activities. Adding to this is vehicular pollution.

Speaking about some of the more serious issues, Ruchika Sethi, who has been taking the initiative to raise and follow up on pollution concerns with the authorities, told City Spidey, “Dry waste collection points are required in every ward. We need to work and get a committee to follow up on this. The authorities need to identify land for creating these centres.”

She further added, “We must take photos of uncovered vehicles carrying construction material.”

“We are breathing in air that is slowly decreasing our lifespan,” said Bhawesh Saini, a resident.

Along with residents, there were two doctors present, who shared their concerns of the air affecting people's health.

After submitting the letter to the CM, residents now await action on the issue.
