Sewage on the streets: Can these Noida sectors expect a solution?

Residents of sectors 74, 75, 76 and 78 are faced with the problem of an open drain, with sewage spilling out on to the streets. This, they say, happens every season, despite the drain being cleaned. About 50,000 people living in these sectors are affected.

They have made complaints to Noida Authority about the issue, but to no avail.

The stretch between Supertech Capetown and Grand Ajnara Heritage has been dirty, messy and stinky for the past one month. The drain is choked and spews sewage out on to the main street, which is in heavy use by residents, be it for regular commute or for schoolchildren waiting for their buses.

Residents say there is waterlogging both inside and outside their societies.

Dhanajay Kumar, a resident of Grand Ajnara Heritage, told City Spidey, “The drain has become a breeding ground for mosquitoes. Every year, during the monsoons, several cases of dengue and chikungunya are reported from this sector."

When City Spidey contacted RS Yadav, project engineer of Noida Authority, he said the drain was cleaned a few days ago but the problem persisted as it was not connected to any other drain, causing water to stagnate. "The connection of drains in sectors 74, 75, 76, 77 and 78 is yet to be completed. But work on it will start soon."
