The residents of Park View Residency, C2 Block and Mahendra Aura, who have had to face police wrath for  blocking the Palam Vihar Road to protest against increasing air pollution in the area, found some respite after meeting PWD minister Rao Narbir Singh.

The minister assured them that the police will no longer hound them or do rounds of their societies. He also promised to look into the issue of incomplete road construction, causing severe dust pollution in the area.

Thus assured yesterday at the minister’s office in Civil Lines, the residents have decided to not approach the court for bail.

The police filed A named FIR against 50 residents on charges of rioting, unlawful assembly, obstructing public servants in discharge of public functions, danger or obstruction in a public way or line of navigation, and wrongful restraint under IPC Sections 147, 149, 186,283, 341 and 569.

For the last two days, residents claimed that police officials had been doing the rounds of the condominiums, talking to guards enquiring about the names mentioned in the FIR.

The residents are hopeful that the meeting will bring an end to the pressure tactics of the police.
