GB Nagar: Think of a car only if you've got parking space

If you don’t own parking space, you might not need a car. In a meeting held at the Ghaziabad transport office today, it was decided that the regional transport office (RTO) of GB Nagar can deny registration certificates to new car buyers if they fail to produce valid documents for parking space.

The meeting was attended by officials of GB Nagar and Ghaziabad, and other city transport personnel.

AK Pandey, assistant RTO of GB Nagar, told City Spidey that the order to this effect was released on July 15 last year. But today’s meeting asked all transport offices to follow this guideline strictly.

This order will be applicable for new cars registered in Ghaziabad, GB Nagar, Hapur and Bulandshahr districts.

“The move will address parking issues in the city. The order means that a customer may not be able to register a new car with the RTO in case of failure to show ownership of parking space. The buyers will also be asked to share the details of other cars in the family, and parking provisions,” Pandey said.

“Owners registering new vehicles will need to furnish an affidavit and a map of the parking space available with them — could be their own property or rented. This will mean car owners will not park their vehicles in public places or roadsides. This should be able to curb vehicular parking along roads,”  he added.

According to RTO records, GB Nagar has about 6,04,182 registered vehicles, including 1,82,561 four-wheelers, 3,54,692 two-wheelers and 66,929 transport vehicles. On average, nearly 3,500 vehicles are registered with the transport department every month.
