Noida and Gzb residents hail new car registration norms

The residents of Ghaziabad and Noida have welcomed the district transport department’s decision of denying registration certificates to new car buyers if they failed to produce valid documents for parking space.

This decision was taken at a meeting held yesterday at the Ghaziabad transport office.

Owners registering new vehicles are now required to furnish an affidavit and a map of the parking space available with them — it could be rented too.

Residents of Noida and Ghaziabad are supporting the measure.

Rajan Kumar, a resident of Sector 27, said, “People shop in Atta Market, Sector 18, and park their vehicles on the road, leading to congestion.”

Alok Kumar, president of Federation of Apartment Owners Association (FedAOA), Ghaziabad, said, “It is important to reduce the number of vehicles on roads. Residents usually have one parking slot but own a couple of cars. They often park their vehicles unsystematically, creating trouble for other residents. Sometimes, people use the common area of the society to park vehicles.”

NP Singh, president of Federation of Noida RWAs (FONRWA), echoed similar thoughts. He said, “Owing to this decision, people will buy fewer vehicles, so certainly the traffic problem will be mitigated in a way.”

The order, according to AK Pandey, assistant regional transport officer of GB Nagar, was passed in July last year, but will be followed strictly from now on.

The rule applies to new cars registered at Ghaziabad, GB Nagar, Hapur and Bulandshahr districts.
