Madhu Azad is Gurgaon’s new mayor Gurgaon twinkles with hope under the new leadership

After a stiff competition for the post of mayor in Gurgaon, Madhu Azad won the title by a clear majority.

The pronounced mandate this year was that the mayor had to be a woman from the scheduled caste. Subscribing to this mandate, Madhu Azad and Sheetal Bagri had contended for the post. On the other hand, Sunita Yadav won the position of deputy mayor and Promila Kablana won the position of senior deputy mayor.

With a new mayor at the helm of civic affairs, the councillors will now start to undertake tasks for the general upkeep of the city and their specific wards.

The oath-taking ceremony took place today, with D Suresh, divisional commissioner, delegating specific responsibilities to the three women.

Given the complex plethora of civic odds in Gurgaon, the task of these women may seem daunting. However, they seem confident and determined to resolve all issues. Hopefully Gurgaon will see a civic renaissance during their tenure.
