Hundreds of homebuyers protested in front of the office of Gurugram commissioner of police on Thursday against AN Buildwell Pvt. Ltd. They were demanding immediate registration of FIR against the developer for failure to deliver their flats within stipulated time period.

They complained that the company abruptly stopped construction of its residential apartment named “Spirewoods” at Sector 103 adjacent to Dwarka expressway 18 months ago. This has created panic among 400 homebuyers who have invested in the project.

“The company officials are neither taking calls nor replying to emails or written queries as to why the construction was stalled. Each of the 400 buyers has invested Rs 40 to 50 lakh for different types of flats. We are literally helpless and are scared of being duped by the company of our hard-earned money,” said Cherryn Dogra, one of the buyers.

The company started the construction on the site of the project spread across 11.5-acre land in November 20, 2012 with 36 months deadline for its completion. The construction went on smoothly for a year before halting every now and then. At present, the construction is completely stalled.

“We met ACP (Crime) Hawa Singh on Thursday and demanded an FIR against company officials. He assured us an investigation followed by FIR in this matter. We have unanimously decided to give 15 days’ time for investigation. If the local police fail to deliver justice to us, we will knock the door of the court,” asserted Dogra.

Another buyer, Rajnish Kumar, lamented that since majority of the buyers have taken loan from different banks, they are facing double financial burden. They have to pay for EMI as well as monthly rental for the flats they are currently residing in.

“We have learnt that the project was initially funded through different channels of FDI and domestic investors who are now fighting with each other,” said Kumar.

When contacted by City Spidey, ACP Hawa Singh, said after receiving 70 individual complaints in this regard, we have constituted a special investigation team to probe the matter in a time-bound manner. FIRs against the developer company would be registered on the basis of the investigation report.
