Noida: Thousands throng the roads to protest in Sector 137

Thousands of residents of eight societies in Sector 137 came out on the roads to demonstrate against Noida Authority today. As many as 20,000 people living in the eight housing societies such as Exotica Fresco, Paramount Floraville, Gulshan Vivante, Ajnara Daffodil, Paras Tierea and Purvanchal Royal Park among others feel that Noida Authority has been unable to resolve civic issues like lack of safety measures, dysfunctional drainage systems and others problems that Sector 137 has been beset with.

Residents alleged that there is no proper drainage in the sector and water is getting choked at multiple places especially near Paras Tierea society. This has been causing a lot of trouble and the choked water has been posing serious health issues for the residents. “There are many open drains (nallas) in Sector 137, and this has led to unhygienic conditions in the sector! Additionally, it is also a source of many health issues! It is our request that all these open drains are covered in the sector,” a resident complained.

The residents also said that incidents like snatchings and cars being broken into have become all too common in the area. There is no proper patrolling or police chowki in the sector, and this is posing serious security issues.

Residents said that there is no designated park in the sector for greenery and kids play zone. Ankur Arora, a resident of Paramount Floraville in Sector 137, told City Spidey that Noida Authority had planned three four parks in the sector, but they have not developed them till date. “Roads in Sector 137 are broken at multiple places and are in really bad shape! We demand Noida Authority repairs these roads and also puts speed breakers in place as there are none in the sector,” Arora added.

Saurab Gupta, a resident of Paramount Floraville, a residential society in the vicinity, said, “We want Noida Authority to appoint a nodal officer for monitoring all the development work of the Sector 137 as this is a high-density sector.”

Residents also alleged that road junctions in the sector are either non-existent or badly designed. “There have been fatal accidents due to this, and we have demanded that traffic lights be installed and proper junctions be designed for the sector roads several times! But we still await for Noida Authority to act upon it,” a resident lashed out.

“We have been hearing for the past one year that Ganga water will be available to Sector 137 residents soon. Though, supply in some societies has started for two hours a day, it is insufficient and we demand supply for at least four hours in the morning and in the evening each,” a resident added.
