Why does Gurgaon’s Galleria market suddenly look a lot more clean?

Taking the country's vision of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan forward, residents of Sushant Lok Phase 1, in association with Galleria Condominium Association, or GCA, recently undertook a six-hour cleanliness drive around Galleria Market.

With the help of five tractors and tree-cutting machines, about 60 cleaning staff, along with residents of Ridgewood and Sushant Lok, meticulously collected garbage from various spots around the area.

DLF had supplied the cleaning personnel, a supervisor, tractors and a JCB machine. Speaking to City Spidey, Neeraj Yadav, president of GCA, said, “We got a lot of assistance from MCG in cleaning this area, which had been neglected for years.”

Picking up malba, removing encroachments and pruning of trees were all part of the cleanliness drive.

Sanjay Bakshi, a resident of Sushant Lok, said, “As responsible citizens, we have to ensure that our environment is clean. With increasing pollution levels that are depleting air quality, we have to undertake measures within our reach. After all, a healthy environment promotes a healthy life.”

Adding to Bakshi’s observation, Shalinder Singh, a resident of the Ridgewood condominium, said, “Our market was very dirty. Hence, instead of waiting for the authorities to do something, we embarked on a cleaning drive ourselves.”
