Gurgaon Police books Heritage City residents for protesting on MG Road The demolition in progress

Gurgaon Police have booked 30 residents from Heritage City, an upscale condominium on MG Road, after they blocked the road yesterday causing public inconvenience. The residents were protesting against the recent demolition of certain shops on the society premises by the enforcement wing of district town planning (DTP).

However, no names have been mentioned in the FIR just now.

The DTP, on Wednesday and Thursday, got a bulldozer and had the shops razed to the ground.

Rajdeep Sehrawat, Heritage RWA (HERWA) secretary, alleged, “When we asked them to show us the order, they started behaving aggressively.”

However, the shops that were demolished were illegal, claimed Praveen Yadav, a resident who owns several shops in the society.

The RWA and the builder are in a tussle over the common areas and a case is pending in the Supreme Court over the same.

Much to the ire of the RWA, who are against the builder, Yadav purchased a few shops on the premises from the developer, since the common area is still with it. However, HERWA refused to provide even basic power connection for the shops.

Yadav said, “Desperate for help, I wrote to the CM to have the illegal shops demolished. And it was done, infuriating the residents. And now they are protesting for God knows what!"

“We have registered an FIR under IPC Sections 147 (rioting), 283 (danger or obstruction in public way or line of navigation), 341 (wrongful restraint) and 186 (obstructing public servant in the discharge of public functions). We will look at the CCTV footage to ascertain the people involved to take further action,” said inspector Sudeep Singh, SHO, DLF Phase II.

The residents, in the meantime, visited PWD minister Rao Narbir Singh seeking help.
