Noida: One dead, two injured in car accident near Atta underpass

A Class 12 boy was killed while two of his friends were injured after their car hit a divider and toppled several times near Atta underpass in Sector 18 of Noida on the intervening night of Thursday.

The deceased, Raghav Mehra, was driving the car at the time of the accident.

According to police, the incident took place at around 1.30 am when the three, identified as Raghav Mehra (18) — along with his two friends Rehan and Yavesh, all Class 12 student of Delhi Public School in Indirapuram — were returning home from a party in Greater Noida.

“Prima facie, looking at the intensity of the impact, it appears that the car speeding, and near the underpass they lost control of the wheels and hit the divider, toppling over several times,” said Abhinandan, Circle Officer 1, Noida.

The students were rushed to the district hospital in Sector 30. Later, their parents took them to a private hospital in Ghaziabad, where Raghav succumbed to his injuries, while Rehan and Yavesh are currently in the ICU with serious injuries.

However, they are now out of danger.

“They were stuck in the car for at least 15 minutes before being rescued by locals and the police, who then rushed them to the hospital. The car was also badly damaged,” the officer added.

According to police, Rehan’s father had bought the car only a couple of days back. On Wednesday evening, the trio had taken out the car and driven to Noida from Indirapuram.

“It is also suspected that they might be driving under the influence of alcohol, however it can only be established in the post-mortem report,” added the circle officer.
