Delhi Lieutenant-Governor (LG) Anil Baijal today directed all the three branches of the municipal corporation NDMC, EDMC and SDMC  to complete their solid waste management programmes within 16 months. He also asked Delhi chief secretary Anshu Prakash to monitor the progress of the projects.

Baijal directed the municipal corporations to ensure the prevention of methane emission from the three landfill sites at Ghazipur, Bhalswa and Okhla. He asked them to take the help of experts from the Union Ministry of Science and Technology and IIT Delhi if necessary to speed up work and ensure completion on time.

The directive came while reviewing the detailed action plan of various agencies and stakeholders on measures to combat air pollution in Delhi. 

The LG also asked the agencies to indicate the exact requirement of funds and coordinate with the Delhi chief secretary about it.

He also asked the civic bodies to take the help of sweepers and ragpickers.
