Six burglars nabbed by cops in Dwarka Sector 22 through community vigilance

Community vigilance is the new buzzword for Dwarka’s security system. While 11 societies of Dwarka are already practicing the scheme 26 more have been identified.

Six burglars nabbed by cops in Dwarka Sector 22 through community vigilance

Yesterday a gang of burglars who were allegedly involved in a series of robberies in Dwarka’s Sector 22 and 23 were nabbed by the police. The ACP of Dwarka attributes the success of the cops to the ‘Neighbourhood Watch Scheme,’ a civil form of vigilance which certain sectors of the sub city are currently experimenting with.

In the words of the ACP Rajendra Singh, “Incidents of burglary and theft have been happening quite frequently in some temples and the Mother Diary booths of Dwarka Sector 22. Nabbing the culprits was proving to be a challenge for the local police. Finally the police solicited the support of the members of the management committees and security guards of residential societies for keeping vigilance and laying traps. Yesterday night too, policemen from the Sector 23 Police Station managed to nab six minors (red handed) who were stealing from a Mother Dairy Booth at Beverly Park Society of Sector 22, by laying a similar trap. The gang confessed to many other crimes in the recent past.”

According to Singh this concept of community vigilance shall now be extended to the entire sub city. “We are meeting the RWAs and the managements of societies in different sectors and shall be implementing the concept from January,” he said.

Incidentally, this is not a new scheme. Earlier this year some societies like Sri Ram Society in Sector 4 were made model societies for implementing the Neighbourhood Watch Scheme. Sukh Sagar Apartments in Sector 9, Netaji Subhash Apartments in Sector 13 and Beverly Park in Sector 22 were the other societies.

Currently 11 societies of Dwarka are practicing the scheme. “Around 26 additional societies have been identified for the scheme,” shared a source. Sri Ram Apartments in Sector 4, Sarv Sanjhi Apartments, Azad Hind Apartments, Sukh Sagar Apartments (all from Sector 9), Shakuntalam Apartments from Sector 10, Sanskriti Apartments from Sector 19, Chitrakoot Apartments and Dream Apartments from Sector 22, New Kanchenjunga Apartments and Harmony Apartments from Sector 23 and Pink Apartments in Pocket 6 of Nasirpur are the societies which are under the scheme until now.

President of Federation of RWAs of Sector 9 and president of Ganpati Apartments, Advocate KS Bhati said “This scheme must be promoted in the interest of Dwarka’s security.”
