Is there more road restoration happening in Dwarka than required?

Is there more road restoration happening in Dwarka than required?

Civic agencies are digging roads across Dwarka in a bid to restore them. However, most of these restoration initiatives are failing to see the light of day.

People of the sub-city allege that the agencies involved are deliberately working with the wrong facts and figures, so they can stall work at periodic intervals by citing procedural complications. People also say that in the process, the agencies involved are unscrupulously minting money from various stakeholders.

After rigorous and sustained follow-ups, Rejimon CK, president of Dwarka Forum and a resident of Sector 22, says there is a nexus between government agencies and the contractors or private agencies executing the work.

Recently he shared a post on social media that read: "The entire Sector 22 has been dug, when only the stretch from Carmel Chowk to Green Valley requires digging. This shows that the surplus money goes to the authorities."

He added, “The permission was granted for digging 23 pits. However, instead of 23 pits, over 30 large pits and 60 small pits have been dug. Needless to say, this has caused damage to public property and unnecessary expenditure, not to mention the pollution it has caused."

He said that despite repeated orders from the Supreme Court, the High Court and the National Green Tribunal, nothing was being done to control the dust and pollution of the sub-city.

Talking about the pitfalls of the incomplete restoration drives, SK Goel, general secretary of Dwarka Forum and a resident of Sector 12, said, “This has become a never-ending problem. We are having to contend with dust, mud and rough roads. Surely, DDA is responsible and owes us an explanation."
