Minister Suresh Khanna believes Gzb has tackled its builder-buyer issues

He further called it an achievement of the three-member ministerial committee formed by the Yogi government. But do homebuyers agree?

Minister Suresh Khanna believes Gzb has tackled its builder-buyer issues Suresh Khanna was in Ghaziabad yesterday to review various public department work

If the words of Suresh Khanna, urban development minister of Uttar Pradesh, are to be believed, there has been significant progress in solving real estate issues in the city, including addressing builder-buyer issues. On a visit to the city yesterday, Khanna said that the UP government had facilitated the delivery of 4,900 flats, issued completion certificates to 1,980 flats and got another 12,035 built. He further called it an achievement of the three-member ministerial committee formed by the Yogi government in August this year.

Ghaziabad Development Authority, or GDA, had earmarked 23,842 flats with possession issues — and all of these, according to Khanna, will be delivered by March 2018. The minister also took a dig at the previous non-BJP-led state governments, calling real estate issues their “sins”. “These sins were commited over several years [by previous governments] and cannot be wiped away in a day. It will take time,” Khanna said.

Khanna was visiting Ghaziabad to review the work of various public departments such as GDA, Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation, Ghaziabad Police and the electricity department, among others.

The minister also directed officials of the minicipal corporation to take stringent action to recover due revenue, pending in the form of taxes such as the municipal house tax. Khanna asked officials to track households based on their electricity connections and send notices to them for recovery of tax amounts. The Vijaynagar zone fared the poorest in this year’s revenue collection, with only 53.21 per cent of the total amount collected.

Speaking about law and order, Khanna said that the UP government would be passing a Bill to bring about the Uttar Pradesh Control of Organised Crime Act (UPCOCA) to check seasoned criminals. Those with more than five years of criminal activity or more than two charges can then be brought under UPCOCA.
