Gurgaon: Zero tolerance for pubs and bars flouting rules on New Year’s eve

Excise department officials are getting ready to ensure a safe and secure New Year’s eve in Gurgaon by stepping up vigil over pubs and bars and enforcing rules and regulations strictly. No violations will be tolerated at all, according to a top excise department official.

The excise department has formed three teams to keep an eye on pubs and bars. The officials will also keep a hawk eye on sale and consumption of alcohol.

Each excise team, headed by an Assistant Excise and Taxation Commissioner (AETO), will have five to six members. The teams will keep a strict vigil on the pubs and bars, and also prevent persons with age lower than minimum prescribed from drinking. The teams will also check illegal sale of alcohol, and prevent owners from selling more than what is permitted in their liquor license.

The deadline for closing of the outlets will be strictly enforced, as it forms the most critical element in keeping New Year eve safe and secure.

HC Dahiya, deputy excise and taxation commissioner (West), told City Spidey, “We will bear no leniency in any aspect, and defaulters will face immediate action. The bars and pubs will only be allowed to operate as per time limit that has been approved for them and mentioned clearly in their licence.”
