South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) is developing all the parks that it took over from the DDA, and has plans to equip them with gyms and swings and children play areas.

For starters, it took up a park behind Rajnigandha Apartments and Amba Apartments in Sector 10 of Dwarka and beautified it. It has also installed swings in the children’s playing area in the park.

SDMC mayor and a resident of Dwarka, Kamaljeet Sehrawat, told City Spidey, “There are about 350 parks under the SDMC in Dwarka, of which 168 are in my ward. We have taken all the parks for development, beautification and also making a suitable play area for children. Work at present is on in different parks. Our focus is to have as many open gyms as possible and also instal swings and merry-go-rounds for the kids.”

All the parks have been surveyed by officials and work is being taken up area wise, she said.  “We are also taking into consideration suggestions made by residents of surrounding areas. RWAs and managements of the societies are in touch with us and we are taking their suggestions further,” the mayor said. Within one year, before the end of 2018, all the parks in SDMC areas will be beautified and developed, she promised.

Reactions of the residents and RWAs is mixed when it came to the work style of the corporation.

JB Mudgil, a resident of Amba Apartments in Sector 10, who was earlier the RWA president, lauded the corporation's initiative. However, a few residents and members of managements of societies in Sector 7 have complained that the corporation has been callous in its approach towards the parks.

Secretary of Media Apartments in Sector 7, PP Wangchuk, told City Spidey, “The mayor had promised on development of the park during her recent visit and also during a meeting with us. But on the ground, there's no real work happening. How much should we follow up on the subject?”

An exasperated Wangchuk said, “They do something as a formality but what we want is complete development of the park.”
