No respite from pollution even in New Year

As Noida steps into the new year,  residents are still troubled by the increasing amount of dust and other pollutants in the air. This has worsened visibility on roads too. Due to the thick smog, night-time visibility has been reduced to about 50 m. At the same time, due to the dust in the air, people are unable see the sun during the day. This has further increased the chill, making it uncomfortable for people to step out even during the day.

On the other hand, Noida's Air Quality Index, or AQI, once again reached dangerous levels on Wednesday. Due to the smog, the pollution measuring apparatus installed at Sector 125 showed PM 2.5 levels at 342 microgram per cubic metre and PM 10 levels at 513 microgram per cubic metre.

At the same time, the apparatus in Sector 62 read a PM 2.5 level of 167 microgram per cubic meter and PM 10 level of 441 microgram per cubic metre. This is the result of severe air pollution.

The district administration, too, has become active in making people aware of the situation. District magistrate BN Singh has appealed to residents to curb pollution. He has also directed strict implementation of the ban on burning garbage in the city.
