Ghaziabad: Saplings, cloth bag for residents this car-free day!

RWA Federation Ghaziabad is all set to step up its efforts to raise awareness about air pollution. It observes a car-free day on the 10th of every month and distributes flowers to residents. But on May 10, it will give a cloth bag and a sapling to those residents who carpool on that day.

Colonel (Retd) TP Tyagi, chairman of the federation, said, “This time, on May 10, special focus will be on Vijay Nagar zone. This will be the fourth car-free day in Ghaziabad.”

Vijay Pal Baghel, president of environment committee of the federation, who is also known as the Greenman, said, “Our main aim is to create awareness amongst people about dangers of air pollution. Saplings will be distributed to those who carpool on this day.” He added, “Planting saplings is the best way to fight air pollution.”

Members of the federation said that both production and disposal of polythene bags adds to air pollution. So, this time they would also be distributing cloth bags to residents to discourage the use of polythene bags.
