Delhi CM in Dwarka this Saturday to discuss water bills

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will be visiting Dwarka this Saturday to interact with the residents on the subject of hiked water bills. He will interact with RWAs and managing committees of various societies across the sub-city.

He will also meet Delhi Jal Board (DJB) chairman Dinesh Mohania and DJB CEO Anil Kumar Singh.

Society RWAs have been fuming against the penalties levied by the DJB under Rain Water Harvesting (RWH) rules and also the sewerage tariff.

Under the RWH rules, all existing buildings, constructed on a plot of 500 sq m or more or new buildings that come up in planned areas on plots of 100 sq m or more, are required to carry out rooftop RWH. While the rule has been in existence for several years, DJB announced a penalty, 50 per cent of volumetric charges per bill, for failure to comply.

The interaction will happen at Deen Dayal Upadhyay College in Sector 3 from 11 am.

Matiala MLA, Gulab Singh Yadav, said, “This meeting would give people an opportunity to interact with the CM and higher officials of the DJB. This was long due — people want to know what’s happening with their water bills.”

General secretary of Federation of Cooperative Group Housing Societies, Sudha Sinha, said, “The federation would raise the issue of waiver on water bills. If it can happen for unauthorised colonies across Delhi, why not then for the societies in Dwarka?”
