Kejriwal: 'No sewerage charges, or rainwater harvesting penalties'

Dwarka has finally won its battle against the Delhi Jal Board (DJB). Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was in the sub-city today at Deen Dayal Upadhyay College in Sector 3 to address the woes of the residents in matters of water bills.

The CM decided to waive off sewerage charges and penalties for not installing Rain Water Harvesting (RWH) for cooperative group housing societies (CGHS) in Dwarka.

Much to the relief of the residents, the water bills will no longer carry these penalties.

Talking to hundreds of RWAs and managing committees, he accepted all the demands tabled by the resident bodies of Dwarka.

On the subject of maintenance and inspection of RWH systems once every six months, he said that now there would be only one annual inspection.

He said: “All RWH penalties till date are being withdrawn, and no sewerage charges or borewell  charges would have to be paid now. Also, there would be a metre system if borewells are used for horticulture or during a crisis. The charges would be levied accordingly. All societies are allowed RWH inspection once a year, and all societies will have to ensure proper RWH systems before June 2018.”

The announcements were made in the presence of the vice-chairman of DJB, Dinesh Mohania; CEO of DJB, AK Singh; MLA Matiala, Gulab Singh Yadav; MLA of Palam, Bhavna Gaur; and other dignitaries.

Other issues were raised as well. People spoke of arrears in water bill, takeover of certain societies and areas from the DDA to the DJB, billing discrepancies in DDA pockets.

On the subject of transfer of bill-related data from the DDA to DJB, the CM assured to intervene and take up the subject directly with Lieutenant Governor, who is also the DDA governor.

He said, “We want the DDA to furnish complete data to the DJB, which is causing problems for residents in case of outstanding bills. Till complete data is provided, outstanding DDA dues will not be enforced on residents.”

The CM announced that individual complaints, such as inflated bills, would be addressed within a week, and for the convenience of residents, a cash counter will be set up at Sector 5 in Dwarka.

At the venue too, various counters were also set up by the DJB to address people’s grievances related to water bills. People not only from Dwarka but other zones too used the counters to register their complaints.

Area MLAs present asked residents to submit their complaints at MLAs offices for prompter response.
