DLF will manage Noida's first multilevel parking in Sector 18

Noida Authority's multilevel parking facility in Sector 18 opposite Radisson hotel is nearing completion. Estimated to entail anything between Rs 300 and Rs 350 crore, this facility aims to tackle traffic congestion caused by haphazard parking in the area.

According to an official of Noida Authority, a tender had been floated in August last year to hire an operator for running this facility. Only DLF, which has a mall in Sector 18, responded to the tender. Once complete, this multilevel parking facility can house 3,000 vehicles at any given time.

SC Mishra, senior project engineer of Noida Authority, said that for five consecutive times only DLF had sent an application for managing this facility. And according to rules, this mandates the authority to hire DLF. "We are completing paper formalities for this. DLF will start managing operations from February 1,” Mishra said.

“DLF will have to pay Rs 75 lakh per month to the Authority for this arrangement,” he added.

According to Noida Authority, the parking fee for the first two hours will be Rs 10 for four-wheelers and Rs 5 for two-wheelers. Thereafter, an additional amount of Rs 5 will be charged per hour.

“However, charges for parking vehicles outside the multilevel facility will be higher. People parking cars in this area will be charged Rs 20 and those parking motorbikes will be charged Rs 10 on an hourly basis. We have set higher rates for parking outside the facility to discourage parking on the surface roads of Sector 18,” Mishra said.

Earlier, when vehicles were parked on the market roads, the Authority used to charge Rs 20 for four-wheelers and Rs 10 for two-wheelers (for 14 hours, from 9 am to 11 pm).

“As per an estimate, there is a requirement for parking 4,000 vehicles in Sector 18 at any given time. We hope this facility will address the congestion and parking woes of this major commercial hub in Noida,” observed Mishra.

Work on the Sector 18 parking facility started in July 22, 2013. The deadline for completion was July 2015, which got delayed because of a fund crunch and litigation.

Finally, the parking facility was supposed to be inaugurated in October last year. However, even that did not happen, as the contractor had delayed construction work on the project, owing, again, to a fund crunch.
