The district town planning (DTP) department of Gurgaon has issued its first completion certificate (CC) on January 10 under its newly launched self-certification policy.

Under the new policy, launched on December 31, the department is bound to issue completion certificates within eight days of the receipt of the application. The policy of self-certification was launched to make the process of obtaining this vital document easy and quick, and also bypass red tape.

Lauding the move, residents of DLF Phase IV, said: “The move will bring relief to thousands of homeowners who have been waiting for completion certificates for months.”

“We read reports about the DTP starting a self-certification policy, and planned to try it out. Our architect had already applied for a completion certificate. Given the pace of work in the town planning department, we had anticipated the CC would take not less than three months,” said homebuyer Gurcharan Lal, who had applied on January 4 under the new policy. “We were utterly surprised when we got a call from the DTP on January 10 to collect the CC from its office.”

He is the first recipient of the certificate under the self-certification policy, initiated by TL Satyaprakash, director, DTP.

“Under the policy, owners can apply online for CC to the DTP through their architects. The department is bound to issue the same within eight days of the receipt of the application. The policy is applicable for licensed colonies falling under DTP Haryana. The new policy has been incorporated into the Haryana Building Code of 2017. Our aim is to make the system transparent and resident-friendly,” explained a senior DTP official.
