In an unfortunate incident, a first year engineering student of Galgotia College allegedly committed suicide by jumping off the 17th floor of a building in an upscale society NRI City, Sector P-3, Greater Noida, on Wednesday.

According to a suicide note recovered by the police, she took this extreme step after being harassed by her four roommates over stealing a brick of ice-cream from a neighbouring store. The letter states that she had become depressed due to the behaviour of these roommates. The body has been sent for postmortem.

Residents of the society are in a state of shock after the incident. Manish Bhati, president of the society’s RWA, said, “I would appeal to the police to investigate the case properly.”

The suicide note states that the girl was berated by her four roommates who even called her parents and told them about the theft. "I cannot take this any long and my four room partners are to be blamed for my death - I love you Mummy and Papa" the note read.

Inspector Anil Pratap Singh, station officer of Kasna Police Station, told City Spidey, "Initial investigations show that the girl did steal ice cream from the store, following which she had a heated exchange with her roommates. It seems that the girl took this extreme step because of this only."
