Gurgaon schools to be closed tomorrow to protest principal’s murder

After the January 20 incident at Vivekanand School, Yamunanagar, in which a Class XII student shot and killed the principal owing to a grudge he held against her, the association of private schools in Gurgaon has demanded stricter security for the school’s management. All schools in Gurgaon are to remain shut on Tuesday in this regard.

Almost 110 schools in the city — including Amity International School, Shiv Nadar School, Heritage School, Ridge Valley School, St Xavier’s High School and Bal Bharti Public School — are to remain closed tomorrow as a sign of protest against the atmosphere of insecurity that pervades schools these days.

The atmosphere in schools, staff claim, is going from bad to worse, whether it is for teachers or students. Even though the administration is trying to come down hard on security regulations, there are obviously loopholes that need to be addressed.

“The situation is outrageous,” said a staff member of a private school in Gurgaon. “We hear of some mishap or the other in schools every day. We need the administration to urgently intervene in this.”

Parents, of course, are also on edge, following the Pradyuman Thakur murder case in Ryan International, Bhondsi, and the Armaan Sehgal case in GD Goenka, Indirapuram. “We feel scared about sending our children to schools these days,” said Anju Kha]tri, a resident of Airport Apartments on Sohna Road.
