Parents in Gzb to participate in nationwide protests on Feb 3

Parents from all over Ghaziabad and their representatives from various parents’ associations across the city are set to take part in a major protest tomorrow.

According to parents, the protest is mainly aimed at the arbitrariness of private schools in charging fees and a demand for a national fee bill and school-fee regulations, to be monitored by the Centre. Currently, a few states have a state fee bill in place, while others like Uttar Pradesh are struggling to bring one in place.

Parents further said the protests in Ghaziabad are a part of a larger nationwide protest and over 150 associations from various states are going to take part in their respective regions.

Neeraj Bhatnagar, spokesperson of Ghaziabad Parents’ Association, said that the state had failed the parents with its draft of fee-regulatory bill, which favours school administration over parents. He added, “We will march from Gandhi Park in Lohia Nagar and continue till the District Collectorate.”

Speaking to City Spidey, Seema Tyagi, president of Ghaziabad Parents’ Association, lashed out, “If the government can manage to unveil major economic reforms overnight, why can it not unveil a similar school-fee policy for the entire country. The governments have been inclined towards school managements and not parents. One look at the UP fee bill and it feels that owner of a school or some person in the education business has formulated the draft. There is huge difference between the literacy of different states and state education policy is major reason. There has to be equal policy for all states in case of school fees and education.”

Several parents and parents’ associations from Ghaziabad confirmed their participation in the protests to City Spidey. Parents further said that a letter in this regard, addressed to UP CM Adityanath Yogi, will be handed over to the district administration.
