Noida Authority forms new anti-encroachment crack team

To remove the menace of encroachment from all public places, including footpaths, roadsides and vacant plots, Noida Authority has formed a new anti-encroachment team, to be monitored by its chief engineer, Sandip Chandra.

The drive will begin from next week. Kalu Verma, project engineer of Noida Authority, will coordinate with the 10 circle officers and submit the report to Chandra.

On 23 January, Noida Authority dismantled its enforcement wing responsible for acting against encroachment.

Chandra explained, “Now, it is the responsibility of all circle officers to ensure that no encroachment is found in their circle. Noida has been divided into 10 work circles — each of them is to have a circle officer and a project engineer to look after all civil and civic work.”

According to an official of Noida Authority [who didn’t want to be named], “This is the first time that the authority will impose a penalty against offenders as per new orders. For a second-time offender, the penalty amount will be hiked to 1.5 times of the new fine. And if the same person is caught for a third time, an FIR will be lodged against him.”

Noida Authority has also increased the penalty rates against offenders — almost 5 to 6 times of the old rates.
