Will Noida Authority give CONRWA what it wants?

Members of Confederation of NCR RWAs (CONRWA) met the Noida Authority Chief Executive Officer Alok Tandon yesterday to discuss a host of civic issues.

Waterlogging, choked drains and a separate maintenance department for the city figured prominently in the discussions. CONRWA demanded a separate maintenance department in Noida Authority for better maintenance of the city.

PS Jain, CONRWA president, complained that though the Authority spent huge sums of money every year ahead of the monsoons, just a few hours of rain choked the city every time. “The drains are not properly aligned, making waterlogging inevitable. Moreover, the Authority makes no attempt to clean up the choked drains ahead of the rains. It uses tubewells to pump out the excess water from waterlogged homes, but that’s not a permanent solution. It is just a temporary measure to divert attention from the real issue of waterlogging,” he added.

There was also a demand for a primary RWA for every sector to preside over smaller block-wise RWAs.

Rajeev Garg, president of the Sector 27 RWA, who also attended the meeting, said, “We wanted a cleaning up of vacant plots across the city, and also pruning of trees. The vacant plots and wild overgrowth are becoming dens of antisocial elements,” he said.
