Dwarka's Green Circle to host a series of talks on environmental issues

To promote exchange of ideas on environmental issues and to create awareness, Dwarka’s Green Circle has decided to host a series of lectures and interactive sessions at the Air Force Naval Officers’ Enclave in Sector 7.

The lectures will be held every second Saturday of the month, beginning February 10. The sessions are scheduled to start at 6 pm. In its first lecture, to be held at the community hall of the society, nature enthusiast PK Datta will share his experience and work with the audience.

In talks with City Spidey, secretary of Green Circle, V Selvarajan, said, “We have been working on nature and environment for the past 18 years. We want to promote a green culture — hence, we have been organising several activities like tree-planting drives and bird watching. And now, we have decided to add a new dimension — we want residents to talk about their work. We’ll invite people from our community and give them a platform to talk about their efforts to save the environment.”

About 24 lectures are to be delivered in the course of the next two years.

Acknowledging the society’s efforts, he said, “This is a joint venture with the society, and they are letting us use the venue for free. The purpose of this lecture series is to bring together all nature lovers and environmental activists, and to enable them to interact and discuss various issues.”

President of the society, SK Sharma, said, “We are happy to be associated with such a great cause. Our society is keen to promote greenery, and this seems like the right step. I hope other societies, too, can start something like this, and take the mission ahead.”

Besides residents who will speak about their work, experts will be invited to deliver talks on various themes, such as garbage segregation, habitat conservation, the restoration of water bodies and biodiversity.

To promote awareness, there will be efforts to link the lectures with the youth and the children of the area. There are also plans to document the talks by experts and publish a book at the end of the project.

To be part of the project and speak on specialised topics, experts can contact Selvarajan at greencircle01@gmail.com.
