Defunct streetlights are a common sight everywhere, with working women scared to use the area after sundown.
Of late, incidents of crime have been spiralling out of control in Palam Vihar. While houses have been broken into, carjackers and chain snatchers have unleashed terror on the roads.
Disgruntled by the precarious security arrangements, residents are demanding that the police increase patrolling. Residents of the Aura condominium in Sector 110 have specifically demanded the repair of defunct streetlights.
“The streetlight poles outside the condominium are either defunct or without bulbs. This is particularly unsafe for working women, who return home after sunset," said Yashesh Yadav, president of the Aura RWA.
Defunct streetlights are a common sight everywhere in Palam Vihar. On the stretch connecting the Bajghera village to the Delhi border, almost 25 streetlights are not working. “The road is so dark that returning home after work has become terrifying. The administration needs to rectify the issue immediately,” said Tapasya Jain, a resident of Aura.
Speaking to City Spidey, Yadav said, "We have already written to the authorities for fixing the streetlights. We also expect increased police patrolling around the condominium and the adjoining areas.”
“We are aware of the security issues and have asked the concerned agencies to repair the streetlights. We will also increase patrolling to ensure safety of the residents in the area,” a police official said, when contacted by City Spidey.
