When 107 children from various NGOs and underprivileged schools are brought together for a painting event, it's magic on sheets of white.
On a warm, pleasant morning, 107 children from various NGOs and underprivileged schools got together at Leisure Valley in Sector 29, Gurgaon, to celebrate Valentine’s Day. And how did they celebrate? Their little fingers worked hard to create expressions of joy on sheets of white — stunning all who watched.
Happiness, jungle, and mother and child were the three basic themes at the event.
The drawing event was organised by Udaan... Ek Meetha Sapna, a Gurgaon-based NGO that works on various social issues, such as self-employment through art and craft, and cleanliness.
Shahid, a participant, explained, “I have drawn a boy flying a kite, one of my favourite activities. It makes me really happy.”
Another participant, Manu, from Saksham School, drew an elephant protecting her baby with her trunk while giving her a bath. Explaining her picture, she said, “I picked the theme of mother and child, because I felt I could express myself better through it.”
Speaking to City Spidey, Shikha Agarwal, founder of the NGO, said, “We want to help those children who are blessed with talent in art and craft, but don’t have the financial resources to pursue their talents. We want to nurture their talent and turn it into a viable vocation.”
Some NGOs and schools that participated in the event are Nulife Foundation Disha, Saksham Bal Vikas Sanstha, Guru Nanak Seva Sansthan School, Agrasar School in Sikanderpur, Maharshi Dayanand Arya Samaj School, Sector 14 Govt School, Tikri Govt School, Rosewood Govt School and Islampur Govt School.
